Oral Health Education for Treatment Centers
Beyond traditional therapy such as drug detox, 12-step programming, and individual or group therapy- Renumi mobile allows treatment centers to expand their curriculum through the use of Tobacco cessation programs and lectures on oral hygiene/dental care and the oral effects of substance abuse and eating disorders.
Our tobacco cessation lectures are tailored to fit the recommendations of Joint Commission accreditation. Through the use of visual aids and interactive/client participation, we review the latest shocking statistics on the adverse health effects of:
- cigarette smoking
- chewing tobacco
- electronic cigarettes/ “vaping”
Various methods of how to quit using tobacco products are reviewed-and clients participation and questions/answer segments are encouraged. At the end of the lecture, clients have the opportunity of creating a “quit plan” to then discuss with their therapist.
Oral hygiene and the effects of substance abuse/eating disorders
After working with this population for a number of years, it is apparent that most clients have no idea how to care for their teeth and why they break down through the use of drugs/ active eating disorder.
In this presentation, we review the basics of dental care (brush, floss etc) and how gum disease/dental decay starts and progresses. Individual drugs/eating disorders are reviewed and their detrimental effects on the teeth are presented. Participation through questions/answered by clients is encouraged and allow clients a better understanding of how to prevent further deterioration of their dental condition.
